BFCACT follows a thorough four-step applicant screening process to ensure the best interests of our dogs.
-
Once your application to adopt a specific dog on the adoption form is received and reviewed, we will contact you for a phone screening if we believe you may be a good match for the dog. If you are not selected to adopt that dog, we will keep your application active for 6 months and may reach out to you should another dog become available that may be a good fit for you.
-
Prior to adoption, applicants are required to attend a "meet and greet" with the dog and their foster. All family members and pets need to participate. If an in-person “meet and greet” is not possible, it may be done virtually. Ideally after the meet and greet, the foster and prospective adopter can take time to consider whether moving forward is in the best interest of the dog and all parties. While we hope that all meet and greets go smoothly, sometimes they don't and there is always the possibility that the adoption is not approved. In this case your application will be kept on file for 6 months in case a better match becomes available.
-
Vet and groomer checks as well as home verification will be completed by rescue volunteers. To be considered for adoption, please complete all contact information for your veterinarian and groomer requested on the application.
-
BFCACT and the applicant must both agree the adoption is in the best interests of the dog, or it will not be approved.

Submission of an application does not in any way guarantee that a Rescue will be placed with you or that you will receive notification of a particular dog's status. However, we do make every attempt to let you know when a dog you have applied for is adopted.

If you live in California and wish to adopt, please contact our associated Bichon rescues in your state. Their contact information is available our Rescue Groups by State File. We are not able to assist with Bichon adoptions in Hawaii and Alaska at this time.
